Can someone tell me all of the parts of speech of this sentence: a child walking near our school found a cell phone and gave it to the secretary.
A = adjective, Child = noun, Walking = noun, near = preposition, our = adjective, school = noun, found = verb, a = adjective, cell phone = noun, and = Conjunction, gave = verb, it = pronoun, to = preposition, the = adjective, secretary = noun. So, do you have any questions?
Thank you! is there any Dir. Obj./ Ind. Obj...?
A direct object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of a verb. So, Cell phone and it are direct objects in the sentence. However, I don't find any indirect object in the sentence, but you can make it available by changing the sentence like this. A child . . . gave the secretary the cell phone. Thus, the secretary is an indirect object, and the cell phone a direct object. The indirect object of a verb is not directly affected by the action, but can either receive the direct object or have the action done for them. Does my explanation clear to you? :D
