How do you reduce fractions by dividing the numerator and the denominator by their GCF?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you reduce fractions by dividing numerator and denominator by the GCF.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know, but how do you do that!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

step 1) Find GCF step 2) divide numerator by GCF step 3) divide denominator by GCF

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to find the largest number that both the numerator and denominator can be divided by for example say your fraction is 15/21 both the top number and the bottom number can be divided by 3 so that leaves you with 5/7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

steps 1) 2) and 3) Given 14/21 Find GCF: 7 Divide 14 by 7 = 2 Divide 21 by 7 = 3 2/3 is the answer step 1) 2) and 3)
