How to enter a simple equation using $\LaTeX$.

You either use the Equation editor by clicking on the "$\Sigma$ Equation" button at the bottom left of the reply area or you can type it in manually.

$\boldsymbol{\underline{\text{Manual Entry}}}$
Equations are embedded between a pair of escaped square brackets.
So an equation starts with $[$
and ends with $]$
You enter your equation using $\LaTeX$ between these square brackets. As an example suppose you wanted to enter a quadratic equation. You would type as follows:

Here is an example quadratic equation:$[$ax^2+bx+c=0$]$

The text above would get rendered as follows:

Here is an example quadratic equation:$$ax^2+bx+c=0$$
