Data set: 1,1,1,1,2,3,3,3,4,4 The mean is 2.3 The median is 2.5 SD is: 1.25 Population SD is: 1.187 Looking at the highest score. What is its deviation from the mean?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

1.7

Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

NB: i have just found the deviation (or difference) this is not that same as the standard deviation

I guess that I am confused. Do I need to find the deviatioin to the number 4 which is the hightest number in the data set?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the highest score is 4 4 is a deviation of 1.7 from the mean (2.3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay that makes sense. how do the SD and the deviation differ?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the Standard Deviation is the deviation of the squares

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am still confused about that part, but atleast I understand how you arrived at the deviation (or the difference). Thank You very much!
