when a solar eclipse happens, the ring you see around the sun is "solar corona". it is extremely hot inherently and the event named "solar wind" is caused by corona. mainly, the energized and charged particles ejected from sun's atmosphere, especially protons and electrons, which are very fast and in plasma state because of high temperature constitute solar winds. when solar winds enter magnetosphere, the magnetic field of a planet, the particles are canalized to atmosphere by magnetosphere and the colourful light displays, which are sometimes visible to naked eye, formed in the sky because of collision of the particles are auroras. usually, they occur near poles. you may heard of "aurora borealis" (northern lights) and "aurora australis" (southern lights) which respectively occur near the poles of northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere.

if you are interested in the sky, there is a nice and free software named "Stellarium" letting you to observe the space. it may be useful and funny.
