6x-4y=8; X

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What you want to first is isolate the X term. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You +4 to both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but make sure you keep the y in there, so add 4y to both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 6x=12y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Close, but not quite. 4y and 8 are different terms from each other, so they can't be combined. 6x=8+4y should be what you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so what do I do after that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, now you have to remove the 6 from the x. How do you feel you should do that?

OpenStudy (gw2011):

6x-4y=8 6x=8+4y You add 4y to both sides x=(8+4y)/6 You divide by 6 to solve for x x=(4+2y)/3 You reduce the equation--8/2=4, 4y/2=2y, 6/2=3
