first one might not be the answer on the next one tho, so we really need a better way to determine these things :)

the first one is a function. The others are not because if you fix an x-value, you get more than one y value associated with it. In the second, x=0 has 3 and 4 associated with it. In the third, x=8 has 1 and 2 associated with it. In the the fourth, x=-3 has 3 and 5 associated with it. A function is a relation where one x value has a unique y-value associated with it. Note you can have two x-values associated with one y-value, like in f(x) = x^2
