What would you use to most accurately measure out 10 mL of water? Answer a 10 mL pipette a 100 mL graduated cylinder a 1 mL pipette (used 10 times in a row) a 100 mL beaker all of these would be equally accurate

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

confusing o_O.. i would go for a 10 mL pipette seems most accurate but i better say u wait for someone to respond

OpenStudy (anonymous):

been a while since I took chemistry but I would say a 1ml pipette since the uncertainty is lower

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

but taking it 10 times will certainly increase the uncertainity right';

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

lol yea quite a while i took chem as well :P

I also thought a 10 ml pipette would be better. but it was confusing to me too.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

According to one particular brand, actually the 10ml pipette has a better relative accuracy and precision (0.6% and 0.3%) than a 1ml pipetter (0.75/0.5%). So repeating 10 times will definitely increase the worst case error, although one can argue that the error does not increase 10 times, only in the worst case. OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

that is cool^ ( so i was right :P )

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yep! You must have good instinct! :)

Since 1ml of water weighs 1 gram, you could weigh it out on a balance if you wanted to.
