Okay, I'm not too sure about this one. Help anyone? What kind of system is the set of equations below? 2x+3y=6 2x+3y=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. Inconsistent -- no solution b. Consistent -- a single solution c. Dependent -- infinite number of solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is a system of linear equations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. i get that, but which one exactly? I picked dependent but I'm not too sure.

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

This would be an inconsistent system. Notice that both the equations are identical, except one is equal to 2, and the other to 6. This would imply that 2=6. Since this is an impossibility, there can't be any solution so the system is inconsistent.

thanks! I really appreciate it! :)
