What exactly are you asking here?
1.7a cannot = 10a
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Are you sure you are not missing something?
just think: the left side has to equal the right side and 'a' is just a variable
so if a = 1, then 1.7 = 10, which cannot be true

Consider the following linear equation:
1.7a=10a
Solve the above linear equation. Simplify your answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Would a=8.3?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the only thing you can do here is subtract 1.7a from both sides to get 8.3a=0;
are you sure one of the a's isn't a b or any other variable?

I'm sure. It doesn't make sense to me either. That's why I posted it on here. I'm really confused.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh wait
a = 0;
only possible solution
OpenStudy (anonymous):
1.7(0)=10(0)
-->0=0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
It just said that 0 is the correct answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes, that is correct. Sorry I overlooked that. Late nights lead to faulty math
