what is 7/9- 5/12?

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

Welcome to openstudy. I'll have your answer in a min.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k help????

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

13/36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the answer?

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

Yep.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have another

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

go ahead.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat is the least common denominator of 5/12 and 7/18

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

do you want an explanation or just an answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just the answer? 36?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to figure this out we should find a common divisor. to do this, we should multiply the left fraction by 1 in the form of the divisor of the right fraction and the right fraction by 1 in the form of the divisor of the left fraction. Sounds wordy but its like this: \[\frac{12}{12}\times\frac{7}{9}-\frac{9}{9}\times\frac{5}{12}\]after this we have everything in terms of the same base, and we can write it like this: \[\frac{84-45}{108}=\frac{39}{108}\]which reduces down to 13/36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it's the lowest number that is divisible b both 18 and 12

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

haha... i knew junkie was typing up something big

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's what I do :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

another

OpenStudy (anonymous):

change to a mix number 145/14

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

you sure you dont want me to explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14 5/14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10 5/14*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

lol i was like... whaaa?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

another

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure you're learning through this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7 and 1/5 divided by 1 and 1/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes just checking my answers

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the answer 6

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36/5//6/5 =6

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

hey, dont forget to click "good answer". It would really help me out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

Thanks! Leveled up to 16.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now i have another

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

shoot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

evaluate using the correct order of operations for 1/4 3/8 and 5/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry im not too good with math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you supposed to add them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it just says evaluate using the correct order of operations

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

order of operations can be abbreviated PEMDAs. In 5th grade i didnt think it would help that much, but it did. Parentheses Equations Multiplication Division Addition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my bad i gave u the wrong one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahaha..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its find the least common denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the lowest number divisible by 4 6 and 8 is 24

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

that.... makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now wat is 7/8 divided by 5/11

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

one sec.

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

1 37/40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did u get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i could be wrong, but this is what i got. ( 7 / 9) - (5 / 12) = 0.361111111

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

turn the second numbers around. then you simply multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

woah hold on here i can do that

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

Ice, she asked for division.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7/8//5/11=7/8*11/5=77/40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is 18 and 6/7 minus 13 and 13/14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh. nevermind. My bad. I misread.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg thank you so much!!!!!!

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

Haha, google is my friend.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tried lookifind anyng for so many i couldnt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tried looking i couldnt find any

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help with one more

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

okay. take your time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

[ 1/2+ 1/3)\times7/5

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

remember. PEDMAS.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got confused with this one

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

This is order of operations.

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

Parentheses Equations Multiplication Division Addition

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

the ( ) s are parentheses. So we handle them first.

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

1/2 + 1/3 = 5/6. So we can simplify down to 5/6 times 7/5

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

Theres no equations, so we go to multiplication.

OpenStudy (ragingsquirrel):

5/6 Times 7/5 is 2 and 7/30. So theres your answer. 2 7/30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

reduce 14 1/24
