I want to use my own statement used in a previously submitted paper. How do I forego self-plagarism? How do I cite within the paper, and reference in the end?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As far as I know, you cannot plagiarize yourself. I don't believe you need to site something you wrote, unless you used sources to write it.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Incorrect. You can plagiarize yourself and the penalties can be the same. Some instructors refer to this as recycling. To avoid self-plagiarism, cite yourself the same way that you would cite an unpublished work or article. "The survey showed that 29% of respondents were willing to pay for extra meatballs" (Yourlastname, Year, p. pagenumber). That is provided that you conducted the original survey about meatballs, otherwise rephrase differently and cite the original source. Lastname, Firstinit. (Year). Title (in italics). Unpublished manuscript. Note: These examples are in APA format and are assuming that the document being quoted from is simply another paper you have written. There are variations depending on the type of document you are quoting, so consult the APA manual if needed. If you are writing on another format, consult the appropriate guide on how to cite unpublished works.
