Mark and Nancy are making punch for a party and are using two types of juice: pineapple and papaya. The total number of quarts must be more than 9 but less than 15. They should use at least 4 quarts of each type. We want to find out how many quarts of each juice they should buy.

The point (8,2) lies in the shaded region which is the solution set. 8 represents 8 quarts of pinapple and 2 represents 2 quarts of papaya juice.

Here is what we know: There has to be at least 4 qts of each ingredient.
The sum of can not equal or exceed 15 qts, nor can it be less than 9 qts.
Making the assumption that we are going to be using whole qts, no fractions we could make a chart of the solutions:
Papaya Pineapple

4 | 5
4 | 6
4 | 7
4 | 8
4 | 9
4 | 10
4 | 11
5 | 4

And so on as you can see you are going to get several solution sets
