Can Carbon 14 dating be altered by volcanic activity? In other words, geologic material laying dormant for millions of years many miles beneath the earth's crust is suddenly expelled through a volcanic vent. Is the Carbon 14 signature altered?
NO
NotSObright, Thank you for your response, but I should have been a tad more specific in my question by asking if Primary Radiometric Dating can be altered by volcanic activity, as Carbon 14 dating is generally limited to 40,000 years.
C-14 dating is done in comparison to atmospheric carbon content and goes by consideration that an article that that is passive does not exchange carbon with atmosphere. What are are you asking is now a bit unclear
NotSObright, Again, thank you. The intent of my reply was not to obscure the original question, but rather clarify it. My original question implied that Carbon 14 dating was usable well beyond 40K years, which it is not. I was simply adding all other scientifically recognized methods of Radiometric Dating to my question.
