Part 1: Write the equation of the line that passes through the points (–1, –4) and (2, 5). Part 2: Using complete sentences, explain whether or not it matters which point is used in the final answer. Also explain why you chose the point you did.

Was this type of question not answered already?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was a different one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My point is that you should use the last problem to learn how to do this one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you do it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First find slope. Do you know the slope formula for two points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope thats why im asking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-1,-4) and (2,5). So, you are given two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2). Slope of the line between those two points will be (y2-y1)/(x2-x1).

OpenStudy (precal):

For part 2 you could using either point and the slope that you calculated to get the equation of the line. I would do both points to prove they produce the equation of the line. These types of questions are given so that you may focus on the process. No one can tell you what exactly to write. Everyone will describe the process differently, but the process will be the same. step 1; calculate your slope step 2; take the slope and one point to determine the equation of the line Note: if you do the math correctly, it does not matter what point you choose in step 2
