Jose has $2.50 in nickels and dimes in his jar. If he has 11 more nickels than dimes, how many nickels does Jose have in his jar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i like these types of equations :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok let me just solve this give me a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not acquianted with american coins? what's the value of nickel and dimes? I only know they are coins. .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm u wld do .05n and .10d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nickels are 5 cents and dimes are 10 cents

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. i see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the equation wld be: .1d+.05(d+11)=2.50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummm can u solve from there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d=dimes n=nickles The equation would go as follows: .1d+.05n=2.50 There are 11 more dimes tahn nicles which can be represented aas foolows: n=11+d So you would plug in 11+d instead of n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not exactly...i need to defense my answer with work. that's the thing. i don't know how to do these kinds f questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and that is how i got my equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay...it kinda makes sense..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1328427738386:dw| that's my equation n
