Use the Quadratic Formula to solve the equation. 6 + 6x – x^2 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got an answer involving a square root and got it wrong :(

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[x=\frac{-6\pm \sqrt{6^2-4(-1)(6)}}{-2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

after that i got (-6+-√60)/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you think the final answer should be (-6+-2√15)/2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[x=\frac{-6\pm \sqrt{60}}{-2}\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[x=\frac{-6\pm2\sqrt{15}}{-2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should i divide the 6 by 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6/-2?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[x=3\pm \sqrt{15}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was under the impression i was not to touch the number that is next to the radical if it is not seperated by a +- sign

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You have two terms in the numerator. They can be reduced individually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oo ok, thanks for your help

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[x=\frac{-6}{-2}\pm\frac{2\sqrt{15}}{-2}\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):
