Yes jagatuba, the more I think about this the more confusing the outcome. It becomes a very circular argument. Do I act this way because I am or am I this way because I act so? I think we may have to defer this one to the philosphy group and ask them to get back to us in a few years, if ever, with an answer.
People will act contrary to their beliefs in all sorts of circumstances, some good and some not so. I have enjoyed the thinking on it anyway, so give a medal for the question.

Yes it is a bit of a chicken and the egg dilema. And you are probably right in suggesting that this argument could go on for quite some time. However, let me add that when someone acts contrary to their beliefs, does this not suggest that there is a deeper belief at work here? Wouldn't this be a definition of our character? Unless there is a gun to our head, we do not do ANYTHING against our will. Therefore, doing something against your beliefs voluntarily would mean that there is another belief or motivation at work causing you to make that decision.
