find f^(-1)(-2) of the function f(x) = 2x+ln(x) Can someone show me how to solve this I'm completely lost as far as what path to take.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand how to find inverses normally and I understand the basic laws governing algebra. I know I can just make the original equation = -2 but even then I don't know how to isolate the x

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=-2+%3D+2x%2Bln%28x%29%2C+solve+for+x there really is no way to isolate x algebraically, you find have to find the solution using numerical analysis
