Short Answer. State the degree of the following polynomial: -x^4y^2 + 8xy – 4y

OpenStudy (istim):

2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh

OpenStudy (istim):

I dunno. That's what I think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok lol

OpenStudy (istim):

Cause degree's the exponent right? the highest one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe so

OpenStudy (istim):

So da degree's gotta be 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am not good with math

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

4

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

degree is four

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok how did you get that

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

usually the degree is the highest exponent of x

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

and it can't be two, even if it were y's highest exponent, cuz u can divide across by y

OpenStudy (istim):

Wait. WAt.

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

-x^4y^2 + 8xy – 4y why is ax^2+bx+c degree 2?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

u take the highest degree.. and the highest degree on here is 4

OpenStudy (istim):

ERkk

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

uhmm what's wrong?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

or am i like wayyy off?

OpenStudy (istim):

I just thought it was a simply trinomial. I didn't look thoroughly. I make this a constant mistake.
