Choose the correct literary term for this example. Corey keeps staring at the phone. Twice, he picks it up as if he is expecting someone to call. A few minutes later, the phone does ring. Answer flat character foreshadowing antagonist irony
Foreshadowing is when the writer gives the readers clues as to a future event. This is not a great example of that, but it is hard to execute good foreshadowing in only a few sentences.
Irony, probably.
No. Situational irony involves actions that have an effect that is the exact opposite of what was intended or expected. He picks up the phone twice before it rings, therefore, he and the reader are expecting the phone to ring and it does. This is definitely not an example of irony.
Irony usually causes that "what the heck?" reaction. Foreshadowing, when done well, causes a "oh, yeah! Now I see!" reaction.
But it doens't ring when he expects it...
which is when he picks up the phone, because je expects it.
That's not ironic. It's unfortunate.
Ah.
