Removing Water from a Hydrated Salt: The hydrated salt turned from pink to darkpurple or navy blue. I have to find the mass of anhydrous salt, water released and % water in hydrated salt. How do I find these masses?
mass of empty crucible: 39.43 g mass of crucible and hydrated salt: 42.43 g mass lf hydrate: 3.00 g
*of hydrate mass of crucible and dehydrated salt (after 1st heating): 41. 49 g mass of crucible and dehydrated salt (after 2nd-heating): 41.39 g mass of anhydrous salt: ? mass of water released: ? % water in hydrated salt:?
You know the mass of the crucible empty. You know the mass of the crucible with the hydrate before heating it. You know the final mass of the crucible and the "dry" salt left behind. What is the mass of just the hydrate before heating? What is the mass of just the salt left behind? That should get you most of the way there.
So I found the masses for all of the above and it's asking me to write generic word equation and a chemical equation for the reaction that occurs when an anhydrous salt is placed in water (hydrated)? How do i find the generic word equation? D:
