what are hydrogen hallides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The halides come from the halogens - these are the elements in Group 7 of the periodic table - Fluorine (F) down to Astatine (At). A halide is the anion (negative) of each halogen - simply put the -ine ending becomes -ide. So, the hydrogen halides are the likes of hydrogen fluoride (HF), hydrogen chloride (HCl), etc. These hydrogen halides are water soluble and act as acids (HCl dissolved in water is hydrochloric acid).
