How do you solve the following problem: Use 9 unit multipliers to convert 10,000 cubic centimeters to cubic miles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10000/2.54 would convert it to cubic inches i believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3973/12 would convert it to feet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

331/3 would convert it to yards

OpenStudy (anonymous):

110.3 cubic yards = 0.062670 cubic mi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i could be highly wrong though its been a while

Do you have to use 9 exactly, or less than 9? 1 in^3 = 1.638 cm^3 (because 2.54cm=1in) 12in = 1 ft, so 1728in^3 = 1 ft^3 1 mi = 5280ft, so 1.41*10^11 ft^3 = 1 mi^3 If it has to be precisely 9 conversions, you could do cm->mm->in->ft->yard->m->km->AU->mi The question doesn't specify, so astronomical units would be a valid choice ;) (Or, one could just convince the world to use metric units and be done with silly conversion multipliers.)

thanks I got 2.39912759X10-^12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.39912759*10^-12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10000/1*1/2.54^3*1/12^3*1/5280^3 = 2.39912759*10^-12

Yeah, that looks correct.
