Find the bounds on the real zeros of the following function. F(x)=x^5-6x^4+9x^3-2x+7
+-1, +-7
How did u come up with that
I dont even understand what the bound is
oh it means that you need to deriavete it =0

i am not understanding...so since all of my #s come out into a decimal # then what
There is only one real root and that root is between -1 and -0.6 . x = -0.838225 . . . Refer to the attached plot of the problem expression.
well how did u come up w/ that decimal # all 4 of mine are different
According to your problem, you are not trying to find the roots. You are trying to find the upper and lower bounds. Which means, you are trying to find two numbers between which all the real roots lie.
Obviously, it would be a help to know the roots so you could have some reasonable numbers to check fro the upper and lower bounds.
But earlier you indicated that you do not know synthetic division and the demonstration of the upper and lower bounds uses synthetic division and the alternation of signs to show that we have upper and lower bounds according to the Upper and Lower Bounds Theorem
What exactly are you studying?
college algebra
What topic?
precalculus
Are you dealing with the Upper and Lower Bounds Theorem?
I hate this course b/c most of it is about graphing and I am not good with it at all and I havent really understood a thing about this course yet
What is the title of the section in your book that contains this problem?
Used the Mathematica function NSolve, which computes numerical approximations to roots of polynomials. If you refer to the plot attachment you will notice that the graph only crosses the x axis at only one location, very close to x=-0.8 . If you evaluate the problem expression at x = -1 and x = 0, there should be a difference in the result signs.
It was a study sheet given 2 us over value theorem, remainders, finding real zeros, analyzing a graph, & complex zeros
Sounds like a lot of topics for one lesson.
Do you have access to a graphing calculator?
No
So an I having to graph this 1st?
It would be helpful to use a graphing calculator to find the real roots and then you could find upper and lower bounds because they would simply be two numbers...one less than all the real roots (lower bound) and one greater than all the real roots (upper bound)
