How to find the sum of the coefficients for 5x^2 + 4xy – 3(x +2). Please explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it can be zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the coefficients in this expression are the numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please can you explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry not all the numbers - only those in front of variables so they are 5, 4 and -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sum of these = 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -6 is the constant number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the answer for this question is zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok - so they have included -6. You can regard a constant as the coefficient of x^0 that is 1. -6 = 6x^0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6 = -6x^0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you.I always learned that number without variable is constant.but it excludes for for only quadratic equations . Is it right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry but i'm not really sure - it appears that way.
