which type of mammal is more likely to survive in a sub zero climate a-a small mammal with a relatively larger body surface area b- a mammal with a size thats proportionate to its body surface area c- a large mammal with a relatively smallerbody surface area
someone please help
I don't know much about thermoregulation, so I'm not too sure on this question. A large animal gains and loses heat very. A small animal gains and loses heat quickly. I'd go with B, but I'm not sure.
I'm no expert on this subject, but I would go with C. The surface area defines your interaction with the environment; ergo smaller surface equals smaller loss of temperature. A large body helps to keep the core temperature high.
Like Rogue and Matthias, I'm no expert on the subject but I'll go with C too. In real life I think it would probably depend on the animal's metabolic capacities, lipid content and metabolism and blubber.
I've done some reading on this subject and found a concept called "Bergmann's rule". It supports answer C. You can get a quick overview here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bergmann's_rule
C is correct
