Identify the factors of 3a2 + a - 14.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3a^2 + 7a -6a - 14/(a - 2)(3a + 7) is the answer.

OpenStudy (accessdenied):

Multiply the leading coefficient by the constant term: 3*(-14) = -42 You are looking for two terms that will add up to positive one and multiply to get -42. -6 and 7 would be appropriate. \[ 3a^{2} + a - 14 = 3a^{2} - 6a + 7a - 14 \] From there, you would factor out of the first two terms and the last two terms to get... \[3a(a-2) + 7(a-2)\] Factor out the (a-2) from each and you will end up with... \[(3a+7)(a-2)\]

OpenStudy (precal):

AccessDenied did it by factoring by grouping
