What is easier to make (using a compass) an Isosceles Trapezoid, Trapezoid, or Right Trapezoid?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

An ordinary trapezoid, because the only constraint you need to meet is to make two sides parallel.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you. How would construct one?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

With a right trapezoid, you have the additional condition of making another side at right angles. With an isosceles trapezoid, you need to make the pairs on angles on the parallel sides equal. ==== To construct one ...

OpenStudy (jamesj):

To construct one: - draw a line segment - put the compass on the end of the line segment and draw a semi-circle above the line - put the compass on the other end and draw another semi-circle above the line - draw the line which is tangent to both the semi-circles. This line is parallel to the first line - Now choose any two points on that new line. These are the two new vertices (corners) of the Trapezoid - draw in the two edges from the bottom line to the these two points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any sized line segment?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Yes, anything you like. Try it and see. It's really very straightforward.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you draw it out for me? If possible?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Try it yourself first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I will be back in a few minutes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1329262884279:dw| Now What?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

No. The two semi-circles may or may not intersect. What's important is that you draw the new side so that that new side makes a tangent with both of the semi-circles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am confused on what you are saying. Here i will draw again
