I need to factor this completely: 8x^8 - 56x^7 +40x^6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take out an 8x^6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because that is the lcm? and I take it out of all the terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is the GCF, greatest common factor. you can take it out of all 3 terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh right. Then what I have left is x^2-7x+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but don't discard the 8x^6, you have to leave that in there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(8x^6)(x^2-7x+5) would that be correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can't factor the quadratic any more so you're done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome! Wish you'd been my tutor for the last 18 weeks :P Thanks again :)
