A velocity-time graph has been drawn. What does the area below the line represent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example, I got max t of 1.05s, and velocity reached 1.39m/s, meaning that the area would be 0.73m. What does this represent?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

area is usually a result of integrating the function

OpenStudy (amistre64):

velocity integrates to position

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what would it exactly mean in my example situation? don't quite get it.. :/

OpenStudy (amistre64):

no to sure; unless it has something to do with the average position across the interval

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by the way, we're studying motion and acceleration. experiment using motion cart and the ramp, with tickertape and timer

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yeah, physics applications are still a weak point for me ... id have to read up into what it tends to translate into

OpenStudy (amistre64):

displacement

OpenStudy (anonymous):

displacement? hmm ok! thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yw, I knew it had something to do with position :)
