The crystal structure of an ionic compound depends on the a) sizes of cations and anions b) ratio of cations to anions c) masses of cations and anion d) both a and b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you can explain why that would be great >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IT depends on both a and b. for specific crystal structures ratio of radii of cation and anion are fixed(Calculated by geometry). It also depends on number of ions(Suppose you take NaCl crystal then there have to be 4 cations and 4 anions in the crystal otherwise you can't form the crystal)

thank you!

No problem :)
