For a document that was published in a year, for example, 350B.C., for intext citations do I put the B.C.? If I do is it capitalized or lowercase?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what style are you using? MLA says BC no dots and it goes after the date as you have it but with a space: 350 BC Oddly enough AD goes before the date: AD 70 But if you wanted to use the more modern BCE and CE those both go after the date: 660 BCE

I am using APA style.

I don't have an APA style book - Quick Google said to use the dots B.C. but I didn't see a rule for before or after or any offers of citation examples. Looks like there are quite a few quick APA tutorials especially on edu sites. Maybe take a look at those. Local library should have the APA book on hand. Sorry -- I only ever did one APA style paper and that wasn't recently.

Use CE and BCE. Capitalized and no periods, but only use these when necessary. What I mean is BCE you will almost always have to use when dealing with a date before the common era, but only use CE if you have to distinguish between two dates from the different eras. For example: The Han dynasty riled China from 202 BCE to 220 CE. You may also want to us CE for any date before the 11th century since it could become confusing as to whether you are referring to the BCE date or the CE date. Most dates from the 11th century on are assumed to be CE, so the designation is not necessary. More examples: 556 CE <--use 110 BCE - 1947 CE <--use 1078 <--don't use 1454 <--don't use This is a rule of thumb use common sense. If it seems like there might possibly be confusion as to which era the date falls in use it (CE).
