TRUE OR FALSE. When solving inequalities with multiple operations, addition and subtraction are undone before multiplication and division.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe yes, maybe no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its T or F question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then the answer is false.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you could have for example \[2(x-1)<14\] then you would divide first to get \[x-1<14\] then add to get \[x<15\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah that makes sense

hero (hero):

Yeah, but if it was 2x - 1 > 15 Then you would have to add first, then divide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Turns out to be the answer was suppose to beTRUE ahhh

OpenStudy (radar):

f you divide first, you would of gotten x - 1/2 >7 1/2 then adding (1/2) you get x > 8 adding first you get 2x >15 + 1 > 16 dividing last x > 8 whats the differencer???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

remember the BODMAS rule @chinagurl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer was supposed to be "true" because your teacher or on line program does not understand mathematics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no math god that says you have to undo additions or subtractions before multiplication. your goal is to isolate x by whatever means are at your disposal. if your teacher wrote this, gently suggest that there are many occasions where you would multiply or divide before adding or subtracting. i gave you an example above, and could come up with infinitly many more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiplication or division should be performed before addition/subtraction

OpenStudy (radar):

whatever you do, do it right and get er done.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this was the question TRUE OR FALSE. When solving inequalities with multiple operations, addition and subtraction are undone before multiplication and division. and the answer is FALSE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sad to say another sorry commentary on the state of mathematics education in the US

hero (hero):

lol

hero (hero):

satellite, are you from the US?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

students who are taught nonsense like FOIL and PEMDAS as if they are something real, rather than stupid mnemonic devises because teachers think students have no brains and must precede by recipe step one step two etc that is the only reason anyone would come up with a nonsense question like this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hero, yes

hero (hero):

Okay, well US education still has hope then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol
