HOW DO U PARENTHETICALLY CITE AN ARTICLE?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Parenthetically" literally means to cite something in parenthesis. But it is also the case in most, if not all, styles that when you cite (that is, use) something from another source, you identify that source in parenthesis. How you do that depends upon the style you using for that particular paper. MLA? APA? Something else? What appears in the parens is generally brief, more to identify the source as it appears in your bibliography or works cited page than to identify it fully at that point in the paper. In MLA style, a typical parenthetical citation takes the form of the author's last name and then the page number, like this: (Name page). But if you have mentioned the name of the author of the work in your own text, then you need include only the page number in the parenthetical citation. The reader can then find the full information for that source in your list of sources, by scanning for the author's name. If there is more than one source for that author, you will have to include another piece of identifying information in your parenthetical citation (or in the text of your paper). Typically, this is the date of publication. Make sense? You need to cite sources whether you have quoted directly or simply made use of the material in some way. What style are you working in?
