this is more of theoretical question....pie has been defined as the ratio of circumference of circle to its diameter but the circumference and diameter of the circle are both fixed quantities and thus have to be rational so how can their ratio be irrational?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kaisa hai yaar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IT is irrational For you cannot have circumference and diameter rational simultaneouly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oiee aisa kyun re...m fine btw...:P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because the angle of arc subtended by a closed path is 2pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm i don't get how can this justify pi to be irrational....the diameter has to be fixed as the lenght of a line segment is and the circumference has also to be fixed......what i think is if there is something irrational then it has to be circumference but m not able to find an appropraite justification for it.......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PI is also defined as \[\pi=4\sum_{k=0}^{ \infty}\frac{(-1)^k}{2k+1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm.....wat i say is this definition is somehow derived from the basic definition of pi i.e. ratio of circumference to diametre.......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

moreover each of its definition should be able to justify that pi is irrational

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm......so how that result has been attained.......i mean how can there be 2 totally different fundamental definition for the same quantity...shouldn't they be related somehow....?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is not the fundamental definition circumference is the fundamental definition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just an idea. pi is irrarional considering that it's a transcending decimal, and transcending decimal are irrational numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pi ( circumference over diameter) always result transcencing decimals, eventhough circumference and diameter are fixed rational numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it is transcending decimal but the definition seemingly doesn't suggest it to be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

circumference is always rational, for in real application, circumference is always positive for it determined length and measure, and length and measure are always positive. .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually i guess rational numbers are closed under divison///// moreover irrational can't be represented in form of the ratio of two rational nos p and q(q isnot equal to zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perhaps,. some fractional numbers results terminating decimals, and terminating decimals are irrational. .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah that's what exactly my doubt is if circumference is rational and so is diameter then from my point of view their ratio can't be irrational

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think it through people Diameter and circumference are not rational at same time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm ...pir aisa kyun....?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PSuniq. what language is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jerwyn non terminating and non repeating decimals are irrational according to my knowledge....crct me if i am wrong//////

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its hindi////

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hindu?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i asked not so bright to justify his statement...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Saale ko samjhega nahi kay bole rahe hain English use kar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohkk...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PSuniq, yeah correct, non-terminating decimals are irrational @notsobright, how come? they (circumfernce and diameter) are always both rational in real application. .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey fellas, could you please use english? if you know filipino, i'm on. . lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah. . @PSuniq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

guess the also have to be conceptually rational....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey jerwyn u in which class/grade?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12, u?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohwWwW. . great

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@notsobright wat u say....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is hindu a language from india?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no hindi is a language...hindu is a religion...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its Hindi It is the most spoken as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh, i do apologize for that mistake. . now i know. are you both from india?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i heard a lot about india. . and i've just watched the 3 idiots movie,. full of humor, but with sense. . it's an intellegent movie :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice....:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah. . i got tearing eyes while watching it. .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hehe....at which stage.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from the start till end. . lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where u from

OpenStudy (anonymous):

philippines. .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohk..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@not so bright, what's up bro?
