This is an interesting question. Graphene and fullerenes are sheet-like and tube or ball-like structures of carbon atoms. They have the suffix -ene because each carbon atom is bound to three others rather than the maximum 4. This means that there must be a double bond associated with each carbon and so the same suffix is used as in ethene - each carbon is bonded to three other atoms in ethene too. Look up graphene and fullerenes - they are really cool!

ene simply means double bond and it shows that carbon molecule are attached to each other by double bond and one more info. that graphene i the thinnest layer of graphite which is seperately known a graphene
