Hypothetically speaking at the time of my calico cats death what organic material would I need to collect from the cat and how should I store it in order to clone the cat at a later date in the future? I suspect I will out live my cat and hope to clone her within my life time. Atomic Kitty Will Live On!
Technically, you would only need to submit a viable tissue sample for an Atomic Kitty of your own (blood, skin cells, etc.). A few years ago, a company called Genetic Savings & Clone did that with a cat though they charged $50k and the company later folded when the demand wasn't enough to keep them in business. Another company, ViaGen, can bank a genetic sample of your kitty for later though they don't offer pet cloning services (but if you want a cloned horse, there you go). They'll send a kit to your vet to extract the material. The price for freezing it at their facility? The low, low price of $1500. Perticular to calico cat clonning there is big problem. They dont look exactly same as there source cat. So if you clone your cat then she will look different from the cat from which you took sample. phenomenon is related to X-inactivation. About preservation of sample. You can simply remove digestive tract as it contain many microbe and of no use. Then put whole dead body in alcohol . Seal the jar. In similar way many extinct animals are stored. They are alredy in line to get cloned. Ofcourse you can use better technique but alcohol is cheap.
adeshshendge I understand about difficulties cloning calico that is why i just want to store the necessary organic material until cloning my cat becomes available....hopefully within my life time for a reasonable amount of money if not I will donate the matter to somebody and maybe they will clone her in their lifetime.
All the best. If ou want store such long, then go for cryo preservation. It need very less amount of sample. Remaining body you can store in alcohol.
