Ben chooses a number from among the first 30 counting numbers 1,2.....30. What is the probability that he chooses a number divisible by 6 or by 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many numbers are divisible by 6 or 8? When do the intersect?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 numbers divisible by 6 and 3 divisible by 8.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Numbers divisible by 8 or 6 between 1 to 30 ≡ {6,8,12,16,18,24,30}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you can do it now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the probability would be 7/30?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

Thank you!

Wow I like this question and I like Ishaan's answer! Very number theory-ish, Ishaan!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P(A)+P(B)-P(A∩B)=7/30

myininaya (myininaya):

Because 6(8)=48 and 48>30 so P(A intersect B)=0 you did good too badref! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh gosh I have myin's approval. X3
