OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does "que practican ustedes" mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it's interrogative, it's What do you practice? If it's not, it's What you practice.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or "<something or other> that you practice"? As in, for example, "los pasos que practican Uds." I believe if it stands on its own, as a statement, it would have to be "lo que practican Uds." to mean "what you practice." But I'm not a native speaker.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you practice? What you practice. I'm not from an Español speaking country, but I do speak it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, if it's cast as a question. But it could also be a phrase within a sentence. The original questioner does not offer any punctuation, and embeds this phrase within his/her own sentence, so it's impossible to tell the context. For example -- la técnica que practican ustedes la disciplina científica que practican ustedes ese extraño juego que practican ustedes . . . and so on. In this case, it's a relative clause "that you practice," where "that" modifies some noun that precedes it. Additionally, if you precede it with "lo" -- lo que practican Uds. -- it then becomes "what you practice," as in, for example -- Yo se lo que practican Uds. (I know what you practice.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you practice? ¿Que practican ustedes?

OpenStudy (venomghost):

just adding a bit of info, "you" there can be singular or plural: Tú (singular) = You = Ustedes(plural) What do you practice? might be addressed to a single person (you/tú) or it may be plural (you/ustedes) take care "Tú" is the informal singular form of "you". "Usted" is the formal singular form. What do you practice? = ¿Qué practican ustedes? = ¿Qué practicas tú? = ¿Qué practica usted? A few other details to remember: - ¿Question? In Spanish we have both interrogations marks, to open and to close the question -que its not the same as Qué , with the first letter in capital plus an accent, it's called "acento diacrítico" that little accent can change the meaning of a word ;) take care

OpenStudy (venomghost):

They = Ellos You(Plural) = Ustedes It's not the same persona keep an eye on that What They practice = Lo que ellos practican

OpenStudy (anonymous):

que practican ustedes =what do you(many persons that you respect) practice
