What is the factored form of 2x^2 + x – 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2x+3)(x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, factoring means, splitting and re-writing the equation in the form of (ax+b)(cx+d) where a, b, c and d can be any numbers. That requires you to either take a guess, like did and found the right values, or use the quadratic formula. In this case, if you use my factors and expand them out, you get the original equation: (2x+3)(x-1) = 2x^2 -2x + 3x - 3 = 2x^2 + x - 3.

oh I see thank you!
