martina found a large circular rug in the attic. she would like to put it in her living room, which measures 12 feet by 14 feet . her grandmother remebers that the rug hasan area of 36circumference sq ft. if martina can calculate the diameter of the rug from the information she will not have to drag it out of the attic to see if it fits in the room.

Directrix (directrix):

>> rug has an area of 36circumference sq ft. -------------- Does this mean that the area of the rug is 36 (2 pi r) or does it mean something else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these have options too 36ft, 18ft,6ft,and 12ft

Directrix (directrix):

I can't do the problem until I know what you mean by "circumference." I think you meant to say "pi" but I'm not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant pi

Directrix (directrix):

No problem. I paused for a snack but I'm back.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

Directrix (directrix):

Area of a circle = π r ² 36 π = π r ² 36 = r ² 6 = r The diameter = 12

Directrix (directrix):

It looks to me as if the rug will exactly fit into the room on the 12 foot length. There will extra space on the 14 side.|dw:1330310342391:dw|
