what can you tell me about a longitudinal wave

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A longitudnal wave is one that makes u hear what ever comes your way :)

OpenStudy (mani_jha):

A longitudinal wave is one in which the particles is motion displace(though very small) in the same line of motion of the wave. Suppose you are receiving sound from a speaker. The direction of the sound wave is from the speaker towards you. Now, the diaphragm of the speaker vibrates to and fro in a straight line. The air particles next to it vibrate in the same line. This happens for all air particles between you and the speaker. So, those particles displace in the same line as the wave. So, sound is a longitudinal wave
