Let R be the region in the xy-plane between the graphs of y = ex and y = e-x from x = 0 to x = 2. a) Find the volume of the solid generated when R is revolved about the x-axis. Please help me

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this looks familiar

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give the step-by-step to solve this problem?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i can yes, or rather, we can work thru it step by step

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we need a method of attack on it, i assume you already know what the graph of it looks like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. let me find out

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|dw:1330384594987:dw| the functions themselves give us our radius measures

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (amistre64):

To find the area of a circle we take the largest radius: R and use it in the formula for the area of a circle: pi R^2 we then subtract, or take away the area of the inner circle that is created by the radius function for "r": pi r^2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Thank you. I'm going to try this on my own. Once i get my answer, I'll send it to you. From there on, you can tell me what i didn't do, or did incorrectly. Thanks for the help so far.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ok, good luck ;)
