OpenStudy (anonymous):

Who gains altitude more quickly, a pilot traveling 400 mph and rising at an angle of 30°, or a pilot traveling 300 mph and rising at an angle of 40°, ?( Type "x" before the correct statement.) ________ The pilot raising 30° at 400 mph. _________ The pilot raising 40° at 300 mph. Now enter how much more quickly (to the nearest whole mph) does he gain altitude?

OpenStudy (mikey):

You can solve this by decomposing the vectors into the x and y components with y=400sin30 and Y=300sin40 for the change in altitudes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

using a calculator?

OpenStudy (mikey):

sin30 is 1/2 you probably have to use a calc to find the sin of 40.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, then multiple then done?

OpenStudy (mikey):

Once you have each Y component, you can compare them to see which one is changing faster.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 200 and 192.84

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the first one is faster

OpenStudy (mikey):

The first one is gaining altitude faster by just over 7 mph...make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, thank you so much for helping!!! It was a lot more simple in solving than I thought.

OpenStudy (mikey):

You bet.

Sorry for doing this. @yukiwolf I need help with geometry and trigonometry questions. click on link. http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/4fe35dbbe4b06e92b8722283
