A cylinder has a diameter of 10 decimeters. What is the length of the curved surface? Please explain also (Idk why I don't understand this)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they're asking for the lateral surface area ... hint: roll a piece of paper ...you'll understand what they mean ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How will I know the height? They are only giving the diameter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right ... they're only looking for the length wich is the circumference

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The are asking you for the circumference of the cylinder. "What is the length of the curved surface"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes yes

OpenStudy (rulnick):

... and tell your teacher no one uses decimeters any more!

OpenStudy (mertsj):

10 pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they do in Europe ...

OpenStudy (rulnick):

where in Europe? news to me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

>_< Thanks, I understand what they mean.. <.< But not how to do it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anywhere in Europe... LOL is the metric system... therefore still in use ...

OpenStudy (rulnick):

well, yes, metric there. many European friends and contacts ... don't know any where decimeter is used. anyway, let me not distract from the curved surface :)

OpenStudy (rulnick):

if "length" of the curved surface is what's needed, as opposed to "height," then you are probably looking for the circumf of the base: pi times the diameter, or 10 pi decimeters *cough*

Thanks ^^
