You need a common denominator. So multiply the \[\sqrt{7} \times 2/2\] So now you have \[2\sqrt{7}/2 + \sqrt{7}/2\] Factor out the \[\sqrt{7}\] So now you have \[\sqrt{7}(2+1)/2\] That reduces to \[3/2\sqrt{7}\]
