|2x+6|-6=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|2x+6| = 2x+6 or -2x-6 a) 2x+6-6=3 => 2x=3 => x = 3/2 b) -2x-6-6=3 => -2x-12=3 => -2x = 15 => x = -15/2 I'm not sure though, you should replace the values and see if it's a true equality.

(1) transpose the constant on the left side of the equation to the right side of the equation | 2x + 6 | -6 = 3 --> |2x +6| =9 (2) using the the property |a +b| = c, then a+b=c and a+b=-c solve... 2x+6 = 9 2x+6 = -9
