converting between general trig form and another form....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There's a formula to convert asinx - bcosx = 1 into the general trig form where you have Asin(x-b) + h or something like that and I can't remember it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you take the square root of a and b on the asinx - bcosx =1 and that becomes the A coefficient?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre doing better than me, i never even knew it in order to forget it to begin with :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's just a formula to convert something like 3sinx-cosx =2 or something like that into the general trig function form where you have A as amplitude.. B as phase shift, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

found it! it's called the reduction formula.. \[asinx + bcosx = \sqrt{a^2 +b^2}\sin(x+\alpha)\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a sinx + bcosx = c (a sinx + bcosx = c)^2 a^2 sin^2 x + b^2 cos^2 x +ab 2sinx cosx= c^2 a^2 sin^2 x = c^2 - b^2 cos^2 x - ab sin(2t) sin^2 x = (c/a)^2 -(b/a)^2 cos^2 x - (b/a) sin(2t) whew!! good, cause i got know idea where this thing was goning to end up lol
