Hello, can anyone assist me with this question on placing a comma. Do I place a comma between stakeholders and this. The sentence is : All members of society are the stakeholders this process is called community involvement.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you have to place a comma after and we often use a comma when we link two statements with and, but or or.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe, in this case you have a situation which requires a semicolon. "All members of society area the stakeholders" is an independent clause and so is "this process is called community development".

Yes, you can use a semicolon between "stakeholders" and "this," to conjoin those two closely related independent clauses. You would then have one construction of what amounts to two sentences. You can also use a period, dividing those two independent clauses out into separate sentences. You would not use a comma. A comma cannot divide two independent clauses. (If there were an "and" there, between "stakeholders" and "this," that would be another story. You would use a comma before the "and" in this case.)
